Summary of Findings and Research Recommendations from the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative

Following the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in 2010, Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) was established to improve society’s ability understand, respond to, mitigate impacts petroleum pollution related stressors marine coastal ecosystems. This article provides a high-level overview major outcomes scientific work undertaken by GoMRI. initiative contributed significant knowledge advances across physical, chemical, geological, biological oceanographic research fields, as well technology, socioeconomics, human health, response measures.
